At this year’s FC Expo, Fraunhofer IKTS presents advanced, SOFC/SOEC and rSOC solutions for various applications, such as micro-CHP systems, industrial CHP systems, off-grid plants in rural areas, small-scale hydrogen generators, and integrated power to gas or liquids (PtG/PtL) systems at the German Pavilion together with other German companies.

Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC), assembled to a stack, are the crucial component within the SOFC system. Fuel cells require little maintenance, have a high efficiency and can be operated with any fuel (natural gas, biogas, LPG, diesel, ethanol, kerosene, coal, biomass – and of course hydrogen). For over 20 years, Fraunhofer IKTS has developed SOFC components, stacks and systems in various R&D projects, funded by industrial customers and public bodies. Today, proven solutions are available for customized SOFC systems in the power range from 100 W to 100 kW.
Customized SOFC/SOEC systems from lab to fab
Successful commercialization of SOFC/SOEC systems requires knowledge and technology transfer to industrial partners as integral part of system engineering projects. Fraunhofer IKTS covers the whole value chain from powder to power – materials development, SOFC/SOEC and rSOC component and stack design, prototype development as well as test and demonstration. Current development includes further reduction of production costs, extending fuel cell lifetime, easy-to-use fuels and systems integration.
