Mission statement

The Fraunhofer workforce

Human Resources

Through the exercise of their specialist knowledge and their business and social skills, the staff of Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft have a decisive impact on the organization’s performance.

Professional development /qualification

Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft has a policy of systematically furthering the skills and qualifications of its members of staff, who in turn apply their acquired expertise in the results-oriented furtherance of the organization’s interests.

Knowledge transfer

The knowledge and skills acquired by the members of staff also enable them to later take up positions of responsibility outside Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. This “brain transfer” – the dissemination of technological know-how through individual persons – is one of the major functions of Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft.

Freedom for creativity and personal responsibility

The management staff of Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft bear responsibility for both human resources and business results. By delegating a wide range of tasks to the staff in their charge, they allow them the greatest possible freedom to work creatively and under their own responsibility. Decisions taken by management staff are justified openly and clearly.

Management by objectives

Personal staff assessment interviews are used by management staff to discuss the professional aims and personal development of each member of staff. The necessary measures to achieve these aims are defined by mutual agreement. The two parties exchange regular, informal progress reports.

Internationality

Members of staff of different nationalities represent an enrichment of Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft’s professional expertise and intercultural skills. They are welcomed by the Fraunhofer Institutes, who offer them a congenial working environment and social integration through the support of their colleagues.

Diversity Management

Fraunhofer research teams are composed of a well-balanced mix of members. This enables them to exploit the creative potential of both sexes and a variety of different age groups, cultural backgrounds and scientific disciplines, and thus improve the quality of their results.

Equal Opportunities / Work Life Balance

Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is committed to a policy of equal opportunities for men and women, and supports efforts to create an equitable work life balance.

Health protection

The necessity to protect and safeguard the health of its workforce is a sine qua non for Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. It consequently places the highest demands on matters of work health and safety and on the quality of the workplace.
