Exhibits

LED based Optical Wireless Backhaul Link

Robust, low latency, infrared

LED link for mobile backhaul.
Well suited for wireless point-to-point communication in industrial environments

Dual Tunable Laser at 1.5um

Based on HHI hybrid integration platform PolyBoard

Applications such as microwave photonics, CW Terahertz systems, DWDM, and spectroscopy can profit greatly from dual tunable laser sources. Fraunhofer HHI PolyBoard platform enables the hybrid integration of two Polymer/InP DBR tunable lasers into one chip. With total Tuning ranges of 20nm each.

 InP Foundry Services

Design your own InP PIC with passives and actives on one substrate.

You can choose from a range of proven building blocks e.g. 40 GHz receivers, 20 GHz transmitters, 1 dB/cm passive waveguides. Rx-type as well as Tx/Rx-type PICs are already commercially. Dedicated design and layout software is provided and packaging partners are available.

InP Lasers for Integration into Silicon Photonics

Optical Sources for Si-Photonics

Fraunhofer HHI provides DFB lasers, gain chips and SOAs with flip chip capability for hybrid integration on Si-Platforms.Single devices and arrays are offered for lateral and vertical coupling schemes.InGaAsP and InGaAlAs is used as active MQW layer and operating wavelengths from 1270 nm to 1650 nm.

About Fraunhofer HHI

The core competencies of the Fraunhofer HHI are in the areas of photonic networks und systems, fiber optic sensor systems and video coding and transmission. The research works of the institute are consistently orientated towards its fields of expertise and offer attractive solutions for market and development demands of the present and the future.

About Fraunhofer IPMS

The Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems IPMS and its 300 employees turn over an annual research volume of 30 million euros. Fraunhofer IPMS generates more than two thirds of this production capacity out of commissions from industry and publicly financed projects in applied research. The focus of our development and production services lies in the practical industrial application of unique technological know-how in the fields of (optical) micro-electromechanical systems [MEMS, MOEMS]. Fraunhofer IMPS uses scientific know-how, application experience and customer contacts as well as modern equipment and clean room infrastructure. Fraunhofer IPMS covers a broad spectrum of industrial applications. Our services range from initial conception to product development, right down to serial pilot production – from a single component to a complete system solution.

Miniaturized near-infrared Scanning Grating Spectrometre

The spectrometre enables analysis of gaseous, liquid and solid materials immediately on site instead of taking samples for lab analysis. The optical bench is smaller than a sugar cube and thus it might fit into mobile devices as well as in automated process analysis tools.

Spatial Light Modulators

Fraunhofer IPMS spatial light modulators consist of arrays of micromirrors on semiconductor chips, whereby the number of mirrors varies depending on the application, from a few hundred to several millions. In addition, Fraunhofer IPMS develops electronics and software for mirror array control.
