Glass and Ceramics

This division develops, optimizes and characterizes compact glass and ceramic materials including their manufacturing and processing procedures. Customers are primarily from the glass and
ceramics industry or are users of these glass and ceramic products.

Material developments focus on polyphase non-metallic-inorganic materials such as glass ceramics, liquid phase – sintered ceramics, infiltration ceramics and ceramic matrix composites (CMC).

Process development looks at industrial heat treatments such as melting and sintering. In this context, innovative heating and shaping techniques come into play, as does the optimization of time/temperature cycles.

Non-metallic-inorganic materials can be monitored using the business unit ’s measurement methods in all stages of manufacture from the starting products and sintering or melting right through to the components. The measurement methods are offered as an analytical
service for our customers in an accredited laboratory.

If the necessary hardware is not available on the market, special equipment is developed and built to facilitate industrial application, e.g. for the volumetric measurement of liquids and sintered samples as well as laser baking of coatings.
