The Executive Board is responsible for managing the business activities of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and represents the organization both internally and externally. It elaborates the basic premises of the organization’s science and research policy and draws up business-development and financial plans. The Executive Board also negotiates to obtain institutional funding for the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and defines how it is to be distributed among the institutes. A further duty of the Executive Board is to appoint the directors of the institutes.
The Presidential Council consists of the members of the Executive Board and the chairmen of the seven working alliances. It participates in Executive Board decision-making processes and a s such is entitled to make proposals and recommendations and has the right to be heard. The Presidential Council meets once a quarter.
